Self-healing methods have once again found its footing in the American culture. More people are realizing that the pharmaceutical companies are not in the business of making people better. While the medical industry has refined its technology, there are glaring deficits which produce coping methods instead of resolutions. Combined with the increase in cost. Both food and medical expenses have increased beyond anyone’s expectation. Thus, the home garden and “healing” remedies are on the rise.
However, of all the self-help ideas and adaptations, there is one which rises above them all: The healing power of forgiveness.
First, God forgave us, without which we would all have perished. He forgave us of our sins and freed us from a life of bondage. He did something for us that we could not do for ourselves. It is the healing of our eternal soul.
The second part is the healing we give to ourselves when we forgive each other. If you have been wounded, the only way to be healed is to forgive. If you have been ignored, offended, or marginalized . . . forgive. The healing of self begins when we release each other of the offense levied against us. Why would we use vitamins, employ daily exercise, or constrain our diet and not forgive? The healed spirit is a deliverance all of its own. Heart problems are not limited to the physical muscle pumping blood. It is the emotional center which affects every part of our life. This is the reason we must forgive!
Our actions toward one another leads us to the contingency which Jesus presented. It is a disconcerting thought, that we may still be dealing with our sin because we refuse to forgive each other.
Mark 11:25 And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.
Mark 11:26 But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.
Even in the middle of His suffering, Jesus prayed for those presently wounding Him: Luke 23:34 Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots. This is the pattern of Jesus Christ! It is the command of the Lord which we all purport to obey!
Self-healing begins when we release each of the offenses against us. Yet if we hold to the wound, rehearse the offense, and speak of it, no healing will occur. I urge you today: Heal yourself!
