In consideration of our secular society, it should be noted that agnostic scientists allow for a theoretical “World Clock” depicting the end of time. It began in earnest in 1947 and has been maintained with warnings concerning nuclear proliferation and other global catastrophes. While this school of thought is neither scientifically proven, and may include some conspiracy theorists, the idea that mankind will destroy itself has always been a common thread in the realm of possibilities.
In January 2020, before the pandemic, the clock was set at 1 minute and 40 seconds to midnight, i.e., the world was on the brink of the end of time. By January 2023, predictions had moved to 1 minute, 30 seconds. Remember, these are scientists who have no scriptural basis or religious understanding. They are people who view war, disease, collapsing economies, boundary-less nation states, and artificial virus manufacturing/chemical warfare and then make predictions based on the realities present and possibilities. They have no spiritual convictions or biblical basis; just the reality of the times.
For the record, I do not prescribe to the world clock theory. However, how can it be that a growing number of humanists are seeing the collapse of the world, but the Christians live as if there is no need to prepare for the coming of the Lord? How can the church become entangled with the cares of this life while the unbeliever grows anxious. Millions are buying bug-out bags and sustainable food supplies while prayer rooms remain empty. There are bomb shelters and underground homes with living quarters in every region of America. The world is on edge as it sees the shift of global dominance, but what about the church?
Jesus’ parable spoke of ten virgins; five wise and five foolish. The wise were those prepared for the bridegroom’s arrival. The foolish failed right before the midnight call. They lived haphazardly and carelessly. So will it be at the coming of the Lord. Many who began living for the Lord will fall away, thinking that He would not return in their lifetime. Jesus said, “you know when it is going to rain because you see the clouds in the sky. How is it that you cannot see the signs of the times?”
I cannot urge you enough to be planted. Serve with all of your heart. Put away trivial things and do the work of the Kingdom. He’s coming like a thief in the night. His return is imminent! Do not be caught unaware of the times. Do not grow complacent in the fight. Our new year should begin now with prayer, sacrifice, and the Word! Eternity is set before us and the clock is ticking toward midnight.
