Resurrection Sunday

It was a borrowed tomb.

In consideration of our day, Jesus did not use the tomb for very long. The place was very close to a hill they called Golgotha. It was a place where a wine press was placed in a small vineyard. The time of the Lord’s death also made it a very quick and rushed burial. Joseph begged for the body of Jesus and it was granted him. However, by the time His body was given, the sun was going down. Women came the next day to finish the burial ritual bringing spices, not knowing who might roll away the stone.

It was a borrowed tomb where they laid the depleted body of our Lord. His sacrifice and suffering given for the sins of the world. Paul said, 1 Cor 2:2 For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. Jesus was the Lamb of God, giving His life as a ransom for many. At the end, He hung His head and gave His life. Jesus said that if they destroyed “this temple” He would raise it back up in three days. His words were misinterpreted by the Pharisees. None could imagine that He was the temple and a resurrection was in the making.

Today is the day set aside to remember, celebrate, and proclaim: Jesus is Alive! Hope is Alive! Love has triumphed and the Lord is magnified.

We have come together to worship the King of all Kings. Jesus is the only Savior, worthy to be praised. He holds the keys of death and the grave. Our lives are forever changed because of His resurrection. That borrowed tomb, barely used was not strong enough to keep Him. The temple guards were not strong enough to hold Him. And by virtue of His death, burial, and resurrection, we have life and the promise of a new life.

This simplistic message spans every age, language, and culture. He gave His life so we can live. He is the Resurrected Savior with redemption in His hands. We stand in awe and adoration of the Lamb. We are washed by His blood; kept by His grace; restored by His mercy. It is Resurrection Sunday!
